Right at the evening rush hour, the Deputy Chief of the Mountville Fire Company called out a working automobile fire on Route 30 East directly under Greenfield Road.
9-1-1 Communications alerted volunteers from Stations 63 and 62 on the run. Deputy 63 (J. Keens) arrived first and confirmed the report of a well involved engine compartment on a passenger vehicle. As Engine 62-1 approached the scene, they were directed to “buck” traffic on Route 30 from Greenfield Road. Engine 63-1 arrived next and prepared to supply 62-1 with water while sending the crew forward to assist with extinguishment.
Crews were able to save some personal items from the vehicle and return them to the owner with minimal damage. Crews remained on location to provide a traffic block for the tow company before returning to quarters.
