Just before 5pm today Co. 63 was sent to the 1100 block of E. Orange St. in Lancaster Twp. for a smoke investigation outside. Chief 633 (Sabella) arrived in the block and discovered a large transformer on fire up against the Stevens Tech dorm building and requested the full box be transmitted sending units from 63, 64 (Lancaster), 66 (Lancaster Twp.), 54 (Lampeter), 204 (Eden) and 50 (Willow Street). Crews assembled hoselines, crews and equipment to protect the building but were unable to attack the fire until the power was shut off by PPL. Once power was off crews advanced in and extinguished the transformer and ventilated the building. 40 Minutes into this incident Command 63 was advised of a fire alarm activation at the Conestoga View Nursing Home on E. King St. Chief 50 (Reese) was sent to investigate and on arrival was advised of smoke in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th floors.
